Coronavirus testing in Apila Terveys

General information on coronavirus testing

+

We offer coronavirus testing to our own occupational health customer companies, and to other companies and private customers.

Our coronavirus testing points are located in the centre of Lahti and Jyväskylä.

This page provides information about the tests we offer and test criteria.

Coronavirus test (PCR)

+

The coronavirus test is designed to detect a coronavirus infection that is currently underway by examining whether the virus can be found in the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx, the uppermost part of the nasal cavity. Coronavirus testing is carried out with a flexible cotton stick that is inserted into the nasal cavity. The test is always conducted on the basis of a medical assessment with a doctor’s referral, and an appointment must be made for the test.

In Lahti, coronavirus testing is carried out at a testing point separate from Apila’s other facilities at Seponkatu 7. Please do not enter the premises. Wait in your car in the parking area, or in the yard if you arrived on foot. The person carrying out the test will come to bring you to the test and provide further instructions.

In Jyväskylä, coronavirus testing takes place at our location through a door separate from Apila’s other facilities at Kilpisenkatu 6, in the Reimarintalo building. Arrive only at the agreed time and wait outside the location on the Kilpisenkatu side. Please do not enter through the main door. Wait until you are called in from door B.

Criteria for coronavirus testing

A referral for a coronavirus test can be obtained based on a doctor’s assessment. An Apila Terveys doctor always makes an assessment of the need for testing in accordance with the current criteria of THL, the National Institute for Health and Welfare.

What to do if you suspect a coronavirus infection

  1. Assess the symptoms of the coronavirus for yourself at www.omaolo.fi. If you are unable to do this, please contact our customer services directly.
  2. If the Omaolo test directs you to coronavirus testing, please contact our customer services to make a remote appointment with a doctor.
  3. If the criteria for testing are met, you will receive a doctor’s referral for the test. At the same time, an appointment will be reserved for taking a test sample, and you will receive instructions for getting to the testing point.
  4. Please stay at home in quarantine-like conditions while waiting for the test.
  5. Bring a photo ID and arrive for the test on time according to the instructions you received. To avoid unnecessary queues, please do not arrive too much in advance. THL recommends that persons taking the test wear a mask.
  6. Follow the signs and instructions at the testing location. Be sure to maintain a safe distance from others and follow the instructions given at the test location. Show proof of identity on request.
  7. The sample is taken from the upper part of the nasal passage with a flexible swab.
  8. After the sample has been taken, you will receive written instructions on how to proceed next.
  9. The results of the test will be available in about two business days. Please stay at home in quarantine-like conditions while you wait for the results.
  10. We will notify you of the test result by phone. If the result is positive, continue the self-quarantine conditions without interruption.
  11. We report positive test results to the national register of THL and the communicable diseases unit of your municipality.
  12. A specialist in infectious diseases from your municipality will contact you to make official isolation and quarantine decisions for you and those who are in close contact with you, and will start the necessary tracing of the chain of infection.

The price of the coronavirus test is 210,60 euros, of which the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela) will reimburse 100 euros. In addition, we charge 38 euros for the doctor’s appointment by phone, and it includes the doctor’s assessment and a referral for a coronavirus test if necessary. Notification of the result and related follow-up treatment instructions and patient guidance are charged separately, and cost 38 euros.

Certificate for a negative coronavirus test

+

Certain countries require a recent certificate of a negative coronavirus test (PCR) as a prerequisite for admission to the country. (This includes what is called a COVID19 fit-to-fly certificate or coronavirus-related travel certificate). An employer may also require an employee returning to Finland from abroad to show negative test results before being allowed to return to work. It is possible to be tested if you need a certificate for these reasons.

What to do if you need a certificate of a negative test result

  1. Contact our customer services, and a remote appointment with a nurse will be made for you. If you are travelling to a country that requires a travel certificate related to the coronavirus, make sure you have accurate and up-to-date information on the certificate as defined by the country in question.
  2. You will receive a referral from the nurse for the test. At the same time, an appointment will be reserved for taking a test sample, and you will receive instructions for getting to the testing point.
  3. Bring a photo ID and arrive at the test point on time by car or on foot according to the instructions provided. To avoid unnecessary queues, please do not arrive too much in advance.
  4. Follow the signs and instructions at the testing location. If you arrive by car, you do not need to leave the car for the test. If arriving on foot, remember to maintain a safe distance from others and follow the instructions provided at the test location.
  5. Show proof of identity (through the car window if arriving by car). The sample is taken from the upper nasal passage (through the open car window when arriving by car).
  6. After the sample has been taken, you will receive written instructions on how to proceed next.
  7. The test results will be ready in about two business days.
  8. When the test result is ready, you will receive a certificate of the result by encrypted email.
  9. If the test result is positive, you must immediately place yourself in quarantine-like conditions and wait for an infectious diseases specialist in your municipality to contact you.

The price of a coronavirus test for a coronavirus-related travel certificate is 210,60 euros. Kela does not reimburse any of the cost of having a coronavirus test to obtain a travel certificate.

In addition, we charge 38 euros for a remote appointment with a nurse for referral to the test, and 38 euros for writing the certificate and sending it.

Coronavirus antibody test

+

A coronavirus antibody test can be used to identify a previous coronavirus infection in a person by detecting antibodies formed in the blood. There is individual variation in how coronavirus antibodies are formed, and according to current knowledge, it takes at least three weeks from the onset of symptoms or exposure for them (in an asymptomatic person) to be reliably detected.

Antibody testing is always subject to referral from a doctor.

Antibody test criteria

The test is suitable for situations where a person is suspected of having had a coronavirus infection either based on symptoms or through known exposure. The test can be used to determine wider exposure, for example in workplaces, identified chains of infection, or family members of infected persons, as well as in other groups. For individuals, the test is recommended only with discretion as part of the investigation of an unclear or prolonged diagnostic situation.

The test is carried out with a doctor’s referral no earlier than three weeks after falling ill with or after exposure to the coronavirus is estimated to have occurred.

What to do if there is a need for a possible infection to be investigated

  1. Book a remote appointment through customer services.
  2. If the test criteria are met, you will receive a doctor’s referral for the test.
  3. Book an appointment for the test from customer services.
  4. Go to the test as agreed. Persons arriving for an antibody test should be completely free of symptoms.
  5. The sample is taken as a blood sample from the inside of the elbow.
  6. The test result will be available in one to two working days,
  7. and will be communicated by phone or letter.

The price of the antibody test is 96,10 euros, of which Kela will reimburse five euros.
